On the track “Olive,” which was one of the album’s highlights and was created as a statement against the Iraq invasion, a poem by Mahmoud Darwich, an Arabian poet who maintains the civic rights of an Israeli whilst living as an outcast Palestinian, is read out in Japanese.
This was acclaimed by the cultural anthropologist Masanori Oda, who wrote that “modeled on Godard’s ‘Our Music’, this is ‘Another Other Music’,” and “because the lives of the people and children who were killed in that air strike, and buried among heavy debris and dark soil, will never be regained no matter how much the towns (of Lebanon) may be reconstructed, I thought that now might still be a time for requiem. That thin voice that comes haltingly from beyond the heavy noise feels as though it is the voice of dead children ringing on from beneath the ground. I also thought that this is something that could not be conveyed visually.” It also received high praise from critics within Japan and overseas.
